Staying Out of Politics!

The church that I attend is partnering with other charitable organizations to do a county wide food drive. The goal is to collect 100,000 pounds of food, which would be enough to feed our counties 'food insecure' for an entire week. I am the 'representative' from my congregation and have been given the responsibility to organize the food-drive in the part of the county that I live in.
~Toby~
To boost donations the local towns need to be involved.  To get the town's approvals, and their support, this has meant attending town council meetings which are being held this week--The last two nights I've attended two of them.  Suffice it to say, I've been so glad to get home at the end of both of them...And I am vowing to never, ever get involved in town politics!!
~Lucas~
I have one more meeting to attend this week.
I'm so very glad I have taken this afternoon off work!!!!

  1. I can feel your pain. Even in a little town like mine, the politics are horrid. Bless your heart for helping those less fortunate.

  2. And so it goes here too. But, I do love politics...just not the dirty kind. 100,000 pounds that will last one week...what a huge undertaking.
    Community involvement is so important.
    Kudos.

  3. I understand completely. Just remember that you are doing it for the dogs.

  4. Ah well unfortunately if everyone vows to stay out of it then "they" can do whatever they want and someone needs to keep an eye on "them". ;)

Good luck with you food raising goal. Seems so ambitious. Let us know how it goes. Love today's pictures.

  5. Isn't that sad that we have to play those games? Hopefully, just your representation will suffice.
But...I LOVE the picture of Lucas! It makes me smile.

  6. Oh, your POOR DOGS!

This is, obviously, quite stressful on them!

    Enjoy your afternoon off...

  7. We don't attend anything having to do with local politics or even neighborhood politics. Those kind of meetings only end in hard feelings.

  14. good luck at the next meeting. Politics and religion is not one subject I discuss with anyone. Hope all goes well at the meeting. Love the pictures of Lucas. He is adorable. Sammy looks so sweet and Toby under the tree he seems surprised about something. Too cute. by the way who is in the background rolling in the grass? My Roscoe does that all the time. Especially after my husband mows the lawn.

  15. 100,000 lbs sounds an awful lot. Good luck ! Amazing people are having to do this in the 21st century . Sounds so much like the 30's.

  23. Our local food bank does a cooperative drive with the Post Office. People on the mail routes are given the dates for the pickup, then the postal carriers deliver the mail and pick up the food which goes to the Food Bank. Works slick! Then our local library gave amnesty to those with overdue books, if they would bring in foodstuffs! The library had a big food buggy to hold them and wound up delivering many, many fill-ups of the food cart to the BAnk! Lots of good ideas out there for this kind of thing.

    Good luck,
    Jo, Stella and Zkhat

  26. Oh, I hear you! It makes me admire all the more the (seemingly few) fine folks who do get involved and manage to keep their good hearts and justice-based values intact without losing their sanity in the process! So good for you for sticking it out and making a contribution - once again you make the world a better place!

  27. We think politicians are like snakes--good for keeping the mice and rats down, but they'll react like snakes if they appear threatened. Best to steer clear of them.

Hope you get even more than you've asked for....it could be a good photo shoot for a politician, so they might go for it!

  28. I agree with you about politics, I try to steer clear as much as possible!

  29. I saw your guv on television and thought he was very dismissive of women and their rights. Very slick and very condescending.

Kudos to you for doing such important (and difficult) things.

  31. Gee, that's a lot of food that I know will help.
You never know what kind of traps you will get yourself into when you volunteer to help out! I can just imagine how glad you were to get home after the meeting, and when its all over-you will be really glad!
Lucas looks like he has had enough!, Sammy says this is all making his sleepy! and Toby wants to get away from it all!
    I bet you do too!

  32. That photo of Lucas is gorgeous!

I recently got involved in a local cause, one that all of us local residents could agree on. Yet, I've never seen such terribly bad interpersonal conflicts as within that group. I will be withdrawing from local politics for a long time!

What a great cause you are working for... I hope that the painful part is over soon.

  33. Too bad you have the politics has to go along with a good deed! I' with Lucas on this one! LOL!

  34. Lovely pictures of the dogs. And I couldn't agree with you more about politics. But what you are doing for the needy is so great.

  35. I'm with Lucas -- I'll just cover my eyes (and my ears) until Election Day. :)

  36. I couldn't figure out what Lucas was doing, until I enlarged it, now I see he is playing peek-a-boo :)
I don't envy you having to deal with the local politicians. I've had my share of that, it's too much of a headache :)
On the other hand, kudos for helping with the food drive !

    ReplyDelete
  39. Twitchy smitchy!! lol I like politics but not enough to ever be directly involved. Thank god there those who are into it, otherwise can you just imagine the state of things! lol I know, things could be a lot better.
Good work Kim for the food drive.

  40. If you do the right thing for the right reason, you'll never be sorry. Too bad not everyone has that philosophy. I think most politicians don"t. Good for you for trying!

    I'm with Sammy...I'd rather nap!!

  41. I have missed so much these last few weeks and now I am trying to play catch-up, but I had to stop by and see what you were up to! I am with you on the political thing. I just can't bear it any longer, maybe I got old or bored or just rose above it all but I avoid all political events and programs like the plague.
I hope everyone at your house has been well and I will be checking your past posts this weekend to see what I missed! Have a great weekend Kim and my love to the whole darned crew!
