How It Should Be

The end of a long, busy week has finally gotten here.  My office Christmas party was Friday evening, and today was a day of shopping that ended with Carl and I enjoying a late lunch at a favorite restaurant.  At home this evening, the dogs were patiently awaiting dinner to be served at their favorite place to eat.
Thank-you for the good thoughts for Wendy. She's not quite as unsteady on her feet as she was a couple of days ago, but she still needs our help to stay standing.  To try and make things easier outside, we've put a ramp by the back porch steps so she doesn't have to go up or down stairs.  Wendy is sleeping a lot more, and not eating much. She doesn't seem to be in any pain and seems comfortable. And just as she has always done, she's setting her own pace --It's how it should be.

  13. We built a ramp for Missy when we moved her in 2007. Unfortunately she is gone now, but the ramp remains and all of our dogs since her use it on a regular basis. It's a good thing. Glad to hear Wendy is doing well. :)

  18. We do what we have to do to keep our oldsters confortable and happy ... that's how it should be. Like some of the others above me here in the comments, we also built a ramp when one of our old dogs could no longer do the stairs to the yard. Our daughters (now all grown up) used Murphy's ramp with their skateboards and rollerblades ... it's nice when something has multiple purposes. :)

The line-up at mealtime is precious. Love all those adorable blonde tails!

  20. Terri from Moondance Ranch, a blogger friend of mine, sent a harness for Soldier when he couldn't get up. It really helped a lot, even I could help him get up. Also, he's on a pain med called Tramadol. He is tolerating it well. But he is only 12, I take it that Wendy is a lot older, so I understand that you know her so well and know it is best to let her set her own pace at this time of her life. I just thought I would mention it. Wendy reminds me of my Saschi, a husky/malamute mix we had who lived to be 16 and always set her own pace. Sending hugs to Wendy and you.
