Picky Eaters

~Lucas~
Since both Humble and Lucas are available for adoption, I took them to a 'meet and greet' Christmas event that the rescue attended in hopes of maybe finding a forever home for Humble. (Notice I didn't say for Lucas too!)  Both dogs did really well, and enjoyed the attention.  I didn't meet anyone that I thought was 'forever home material,' but that was okay--I've no doubt that HUMBLE'S forever home is out there, and it's just a matter of time before the stars and the moon all line up and the cosmos bring us all together.
Back at home, things are quiet.  There are no big changes for Wendy, other than she is eating a little more at mealtime. At the moment she seems to like the addition of Lucas's food to her meal--However she still won't eat all she's being given, and isn't tempted to take the tastiest of treats offered to her.
Another dog that doesn't like what she's being fed, is Annie.  I've been watching her for quite some time and notice that she doesn't like the vegetables that are added to her meal.  She will ever so lady-like, always take them out of the bowl and put them onto the left side, where they are eaten by someone else.
It makes her a favorite at dinnertime among the not-so-picky-eaters!

  2. They are such beautiful dogs,I`m sure they`ll find the right home,& they have the best place to stay while the stars are lining up for them!
I still can`t get over those people who decided to surrender their dog to you so they could travel, things like that just break my heart, but I`m sure all the dogs made her feel very welcome so that she is not so homesick & lonely,as I`m sure now that she probably was lonely well before you got her.phyllis

  3. Some of my girls set the veggies on the floor beside their bowl but then they go back and eat them last. Sebastian eats his veggies first before the dog food. Each has his or her own method.

Am I getting a feeling that Lucas has found his forever home?

  4. BOL!

That reminds my peep of when she was still in school and living with her parents (and my Uncle Fergus).
Her mum was in hospital and they had all been visiting her until late, they got chinese take-away on the way home.
On their way to bed, they had thought they'd do a nice thing and give Uncle Fergus (who was a youngen' then) the left over fried rice.

When they woke up that morning they found rice spread from one end of the house to the other. Fergus had picked out the bacon from the rice and made a very BIG mess from what was left over.... BOL!!!

  6. Isn't it amazing how they can pick out just what they don't want but eat the rest?

  9. I like to think of it as "selective" not picky. Just like our peeps we know what we like and what we don't.

  10. Annie makes me laugh with her lady-like pickiness! At first, Shyla didn't like water added to her kibble, and she somehow tossed it all out of the bowl onto the floor - not so lady-like!

  14. Ha ha ha! Sometimes I'm tempted to put my vegetables to the side for somebody else to eat them, too! lol I hope Humble finds a great home soon!

  15. Love Annie and her veggies. My mom used to have a horse that could eat sticky sweet feed and leave her crushed up pills in the bucket. They are so funny.

  16. When Stella first came here four years ago, I set up her food and water next to the kitchen stove. For my supper, I liked to catch the news, so I'd take it in the livingroom. I fed Stella and took my plate in, only to be made aware of some noise at my right. It was Stella having brought her dish in to join me in front of the TV!

Cute as it was, I helped her move back!

  17. LadyBug does that with her vegetables too! She carefully sets them aside and then goes back and eats them. It's kind of funny...like a ritual with her. Did Lucas find his forever home? Love these pics!

  19. Gotta love those picky eaters - our Monty is one. I love the pile of veggies - in our house, Sam would swoop in to get those.

  20. I imagine that Annie is saying to herself, "I don't want this, or this, or this ..." The fact that she goes so far as to pick it out is precious!

  21. Hey Golden Pines Gang, Jet here. Hi Miss Kim.

We wish Humble the best forever home he is meant to have... and he has THE BEST home in the meanwhile with YOU.

Just like humans, K9s have preferences; Mom finds food preferences fascinating.

  22. that looks like broccoli? I don't blame her for not eating that, most kids do the same,Ha! What a neat picky eater! Hugs to you all and have a great day!

  24. I've had very few picky eaters among my dogs. Angel was one and Samson can be at times. Soldier inhales his food, doesn't matter what he gets, in it goes. Your dogs are so sweet and I can just picture Annie, delicately putting her veggies on the floor. I wonder if she wonders if you will get the message. I'm keeping Wendy in my prayers.

  25. The meet and greet sounds a good idea, even if it wasn't to be for Humble on this occasion. Glad Wendy is still getting along okay. Did have to laugh that Annie seperates her veggies! .. not a vegetarian then. lol.

  26. Wow! My Oliver and Emerson would LOVE to eat with Wendy.....they love anything and everything {except medicine}. Emerson ate an apple label I accidentally dropped on Saturday. Scarfed it down like it was a cookie. Ugh..... Happy Sunday!

  27. Veggies are good! Our dogs love just about everything. You must be having mild weather today....right?

  28. I think Annie and I would get along just fine.. I'm not too crazy about veggies either.. maybe she just doesn't like her veggies to 'touch' her other food.. thats why she separates it.. thats it!!.. good to see more of Wendy

  32. Hi Kim
We agree that it will not be long before the moon and stars line up and Humble will have the most perfect home. Just a matter of time.
I do not blame Annie for not eating those veggies- maybe she wants gravy on them!
We are keeping our paws crossed for Wendy to feel better.

  33. Easton is the only dog I've ever had that likes broccoli. Easton says he like a lady who knows what she likes!!! Golden loves for Wendy. Glad she is hanging in there.

  34. Ryker avoids his vegis too, but he is not as polite as Annie and just spits them out willy nilly. No other dogs here to clean up the mess so I get the job. If they are chopped real fine and mixed into the meat he will eat them.
    Hugs to Wendy!

  35. At their age I bet they are like my Dad......they feel they have earned the right to be picky!!!
    Sweet photo of Wendy!

  38. a darling story about the tidbits on the side!
i didn't realize you still weren't wanting lucas to have his home with you. i know humble is too young but i thought lucas is old like the rest of them.
i'm like angus. i wish i were in a position to take him. he seems as special to me as the rest of them.
    sad.

  40. Hi Kim, What a great time to do a meet and greet; great exposure for Humble and Lucas as well. I know there is someone out there just looking for a beautiful Golden to love forever.
Hunter remains to be picky but I've stopped worrying about it as much as I had been. He gets a combo of kibble, moist, cooked chicken if we have it and I am now adding freeze dried chicken or duck on his food. He sure favors his freeze dried salmon treats and I think he'd eat those all day long. At least he is young and healthy; when he is with our daughter's Bichon Poo he eats her food(same as his)and she eats his. Too funny.
Have a great day my friend!
    Hugs, Noreen
