Rant and Routine

As many of you know, Tuesday marked the beginning of furloughs for about 800,000 Government employees, including Carl. No one seems to understand why Congress is this concerned with the Affordable Care Act.  Shouldn't all of it have been addressed prior to it being approved in the Senate, the House, signed into law, and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court? So many people, programs, etc., have been affected because of a last ditch effort by ultra-conservative congressional members to corral whatever leverage available. When did holding America hostage become a political tactic?  I just don't get it.

Okay, enough of my rant...
When I wasn't obsessed and totally consumed with the news broadcasts, listening to all the political commentators, and becoming more upset about it all, it was actually a good week.

Shadow has settled into his new life and routine. He's an easy going boy that gets along really well with the other dogs and follows the crowd which makes him a great fit.  We are working on curbing his prey drive when it comes to the cat.  I remain hopeful and confident that this gentle, easy going boy that I can do practically anything to, will learn just as so many have before him, that CC is part of the pack, and not part of a meal.
Until that time comes, to keep CC safe, I've set up a little crate for her to stay in. So far, she's been quite content to spend time curled up on the warm blanket inside, or to spend time outside which she really enjoys too.
Finally, I will end this post thanking you all for your comments of support for Sunny; you have reinforced that we've made the right decision.  There are no regrets, except for scaring him with the camera.
Enjoy your Saturday!

  1. Hubby and I are both affected by the shutdown, which has us both worried! No income is no good! Hopefully they will get it figured out soon.

I'm glad everyone is settling in.

  3. I have a few family members affected by the shutdown. This hostage thing has gone on for long enough, I believe the PEOPLE are sick of it. I love your cute Shadow and I glad Sunny is trying to fit in with your adopted family. They are all adorable. Have a happy weekend!

  4. A horrible situation that I thought would last one or two days looks like it might go into its second week. To think that we elected these people. What were we thinking?

It makes me want to stop drinking tea.

  5. I won't comment on what is going on in this country. Just say it is SAD, very SAD.

I am so happy that everyone is doing well. You, Carl and the furry friends.

Have a wonderful and calm weekend.

  8. Not sure I completely understand what has been going on with your Government this last week, we hear words that don't mean a lot to us....mind you, going on the news it would seem perhaps your Government doesn't understand them either, lol.

Love the pix, even Sunny looking slightly worried about whether you got his good side for the photo :)

  9. The situation with our government is indeed crazy and makes not one bit of sense. I hope it's resolved as soon as possible.

I'm glad Shadow is doing so well. :). And i'm glad Sunny is settling in and getting such great loving care from you and Carl and the rest of his new pack.

Have a lovely weekend in spite of all that's going on or not going on in Washington? Hugs Kim!

  11. Glad all are doing well and fitting in good . As for the cat a few swats of a claw should do the trick unless kitty has none . I really don't understand your government or any government to be honest I think they are just a bunch of crooks lol ! Have a good weekend !

  12. Lots of shut-down news on our TV down here, so sorry Carl is one of the many affected. Hope it is resolved so very soon. Shadow and Sunny, great news for them both. I wonder why he so dislikes the camera? Maybe it looks like something that threatened him in the past, can you hide it behind a towel, toy, or bone??? Cheers, Jean.

  13. Sorry that Carl happens to be one of the multitudes on furlough. I don't think I have ever been angrier at the opposite side of the aisle as I am now. And they are all blaming OBama.

When I think of the kind of people our Founding Fathers were, I feel nothing but shame for what is going on!

    Your friend,

  15. You said it perfectly in your first paragraph... and I'm so sorry that you and Carl are paying the hostage price. That stinks.

I'm happy to hear the good news from the rest of the pack. Shadow seems like a real sweetie, and I hope that the cat thing resolves itself. And, I'm so happy to see Sunny contentedly snoozing in his new home - he is happy and here because of you, and I am so thankful.

  16. Hi Kim - as I come from UK I don't quite understand all the nuances of US government but I am appalled that part of the government can cause a shutdown like this that effects the pay of 1000s of THEIR employees. It doesn't seem a very democratic thing to be able to hold the elected government hostage which is what it appears like to me on the outside.
On a nicer note - I am so pleased about Sunny. I felt so upset for him and for you all too. Poor little Luigi got attacked by a dog on his walk tonight but he seems OK. I just hope it doesn't make him nervy. The owner of the dog just walked away with no comment!

  17. We're allowed to bite politicians if we ever find any in our garden!

Hopefully, Shadow and the cat will come to an understanding in the near future. Cats are sport not meals.

    Love that first sign.

  18. It is great to hear, in the news, that The House has passed a bill that provides pay for furloughed federal workers to be paid. I hope Carl is able uses this time to do something nice for you both, and that your dog’s and CC also benefit from him being at home unexpectedly. From here in NZ, I often struggle to understand the US political system and can't quite figure how they will get out of this issue well, but the silver lining appears to me to be that 800,000 people get paid time off work to do good things.

    Enjoy your weekend.

  19. LOVE the smelling moment!!! Little pleasures.
Yes, you did just perfect by Sunny. It reinforces that there are still people that make the right decisions, when we are bombarded by pettiness all around us,ie the government. Enough said.
    Enjoy your beautiful family.

  20. Glad to hear all is well on the home front for the 4-legged members anyway. I love that sign in your first picture. I'm sorry to hear you are directly effected by this nonsense.

  24. I went back and was reading a lot of your post that I have missed. It was nice that you got to take Todd back for Lynn's birthday. Sorry that after fourteen years with the rescue you had to make a tough decision.
I like you want to rant about the government shut down, it is not good for our country. Cincinnati seems to be a strong tea party town and of course Boehner from Cincinnati.

  27. Our dogs leave our two cats alone. Then this week a kitten wandered in and has decided to adopt us. It's been hard getting the dogs to leave her alone. The want to chase her off. I am hoping soon they realize she's decided to be one of us.

  28. The French news broadcasts are taking great delight in covering events in the US. There has been unedifying footage of a Congressman from Texas berating a poor Park Warden becasue the WWII memorial was closed and equally unedifying footage of a Congresswoman saying she would be taking her pay check, even though Federal employees weren't being paid, because she couldn't afford not to. Sometimes the Atlantic seems very, very wide.

  29. The situation with your government has my peep perplexed... Sounds like a crazy system if you ask her!

  30. Poor puss - some dogs just dont get that cats have rights too. My goldens chase everything so we are no example. Your government's stalemate is constantly on the news here in Aust. I do hope they come to a compromise or some sort of agreement soon. Joy

  32. The government makes choices that is not easy to understand that is for sure. It's no different in Canada. :(
    Hope everything gets settled soon.

  33. We're with you. The health care act is done, let's get on to some of the big problems we have going on all over the place. Not only should Congress not be paid, they should pay back all the money they received but didn't earn for the past several years.

Shadow looks like a nice guy. I hope he learns the cat lesson soon.

  34. I'm with you on the furlough - unfortunately we're in the group affected by it. I can't even bother speaking about politics because it makes my blood boil. So happy Shadow is doing well. Poor CC.....what a great girl to handle this all in stride. Happy you are content with your decision regarding Sunny. :) Happy Sunday!

  35. I agree about the furlough. Why can't they just get their act together already? I don't see anyone up there (regardless of party affiliation) acting in the best interest of the people. Just wait til the next Congressional election....I'm voting for whoever is NOT the incumbent.

  36. No comment on the Government...it will only upset me!
Glad to hear that Shadow is melting into the pot. Hope he soon reconciles with CC. I'm betting it will smooth out soon :)
