Wendy's Reminder and 600 Posts

I have reached a blogging milestone, 600 posts.  An achievement so easily made by many of you; for me, it has not been, but my goal is to keep going and work to be better at blogging.  I looked through previous posts, and with the recent loss of Taylor, I was reminded of the additions and subtractions that we've had since I started this blog.

One of the dogs that has been here from the very beginning, as you know is Wendy.  After more than 14 years together, she knows me well.  Many times when I've been consumed with a loss, she comes into the room and starts barking at me. This time was no different.  I'm not sure when I noticed that there is something different in her eyes when she does that.  But I know what she's telling me; she is reminding me that she and the others are still here, and that everything is and will be okay.  Wendy has always been an independent dog, but during these times she stays close and follows me around.  At nearly 16 years old, it's much harder for her to do these days, but she did. This morning, for the first time since we lost Taylor, she's not by my side, and is sleeping in, I know she's tired and needs her rest.
~Wendy after a tiring 4 days for her~
Despite the gloomy and rainy weather, and even though I'm totally exhausted both physically and emotionally from everything last week, the mood in the house is different.  Todd has already seen fit to dig a muddy hole, Sheba is carrying around one of my brand new shoes, Cissy is barking for reasons only she knows, and the dogs are waiting for me to take them on our morning walk. It's time to let that old wound opened by the loss of Taylor to try and begin to heal as best it can.

I will end my 600th post with saying that no words can begin to express my heartfelt thanks for your kindness and your thoughtful, sympathetic comments on the loss of Taylor. You've shared in our loss and have helped to ease the pain I feel in my heart, and that along with your friendships means more than you know.
Enjoy your Sunday!

  5. I've only just found you, and after reading about all the dogs you have given love & caring attention to, I give my great admiration to you for the daily strength you find to carry on each day, being able to see the needs of all the other dogs. If I could give an award to any of the people I've come into contact with. I'd give it to you. keep on caring, but remember to give a little care to yourself.

  8. Congratulations on your milestone. We look forward to many more years of becoming acquainted with your Goldens. I still think about my very favorite, Hamlet. Though others have come and gone, I think of him often and smile.

    Enjoy that walk.

  9. Kim, our own pets know so much about us, and can sense when we are happy/sad/ grieving/ or unwell. Wendy has that inner sense, and gradually you will find the loss of Taylor a little easier, but give it lots of time. I believe that some things in life, and specially grief, should never be hurried along, let them travel slowly day by day. Your last photo is truly wonderful. Greetings from Jean

What beautiful pictures! I especially love the view of Golden Pines through the fog.How ethereal, how precious...

It sounds like Wendy and the other pups are trying hard to pull you out of the lingering sadness from Taylor's loss. They, I'm sure are the best healers....

How I love Todd and his exuberant antics! So refreshing!

P.S: Hope you could rescue your new shoes!

All I can say about Wendy is awwww! What a sweet, intuitive girl. I know why you are able to so tirelessly take care of your wonderful brood. They sustain you. They love unconditionally and make you understand love, when you may not feel like it. Nevertheless, we all benefit from your selfless love and abundant heart.

  28. I love Wendy, and she's right to love you the way she does. What an amazing soul she has. She and you are so very lucky to be together.

I'm sure this has been a beyond-tough week but I liked your description of the mayhem in a multi-dog house! You can't sit and ponder for too long when the dogs are waiting for their walk!

Your last photo is spectacular, and fits the mood perfectly. I wish I could help your heart heal, for you have done so much good for so many dogs.
