Another Snow Day!

The snow and ice from Sunday had almost melted, when snow came again today.  Carl was already on his way to work when the announcement came that the agency he works for was closed for the day. The call that my office was doing the same thing came by 6 o'clock this morning.
I've mentioned before how when I was growing up on an army post, school was never canceled because of snow, so I enjoy those “snow days” from work now. Carl on the other hand, grew up in Wisconsin and he got a few of those snow-days off from school.  Today for some reason he was reminded of how exciting it was for him to have those snow days and what great fun it was to “sled” and build snowmen.  Of course I did those same things.  However not all of us had sleds, so we made do with a friends, or pieces of cardboard and various items that we borrowed from summer like a zip sled (meant to be used in the water) and inner tubes.
The other thing that I always enjoy about snow-days is the food.  As a kid, when we would finally come in for lunch, it was always Campbell’s (canned) soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.  Today after the dogs and I had been outside for awhile it was a creamy tomato soup and crisp grilled cheese. To me it's the quintessential winter lunch and takes me right back to childhood.
It was another good day at home.

  5. Oh Yes. Now that is what we are going to have for lunch tomorrow. It reminds me of my childhood as well.
Thanks for the idea. I'll enjoy it just after I shovel for the 5,000th time. For some reason your snow looks so much prettier than ours. Ah the other side of the fense thinking..

  6. I saw all the snow you were getting in your area on the news. Around here the schools might close with severe snow but businesses never close. I'm just glad that I don't work any more and can sit in the house and not have to worry about driving in a blizzard. I just get to go out to the back yard and play with the pups. Your grilled cheese sandwich looks great!

  7. My peep agrees about the winter food!
Although she's never seen snow. On a rainy day her mum would always make toasted sandwiches and tinned tomato soup... Memories!

  13. Your place looks pretty covered in snow. A fun snow day, sledding and playing with the dogs. The tomato soup and grilled cheese is one of my favorites too. Shadow is a cutie! Have a happy day!

  14. You got a whole lot more snow that we did! From what I could see on weather.com, we rode the line between rain and snow all morning, so all we got was crusty snow and more ice. It's a shame, from Ruby's perspective, because she loves playing in snow.

  15. ... one more thing. Did I already know that you're an Army Brat, too? Maybe THAT'S why we hit it off so quickly.

  16. Another Campbell's Tomato Soup fan here. My gosh, my Mom always made that for me in cold weather or when you didn't feel good (cold or tummy ache) and it always made you feel better. I still do that; have it stuck in my brain forever.

    And...hello beautiful Shadow.

  21. Your snow looks so beautiful and I am glad you all got time off from work to get out and enjoy it. Oh, you pulled at my heart strings with the Campbell's tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.
I am praying for snow, sick of dirty ice. And since you have lived in Alaska you know we don't get snow days but we do get freezing rain days like last week.
    Happy Holidays!

  35. Hi Y'all!

My Human Papa said the schools in the mountains never closed for snow when he was a boy. My Human lived on the coast though and said there were rare times they got a big snow and school closed, but not often.

    Y'all come by now,
