One Cat Away!

A week ago today, a trio of kittens joined us here at Golden Pines.  A week later, these three little Musketeers have come a long way.  We're able to hold them, and they're beginning to play.  However one, that I've thought since the first time I saw it, is not as healthy as the other two and has a puncture wound on the side of its neck that I only noticed on Thursday when I held "her" for the first time.
It's easy to notice that she's the smallest and the skinniest of the 3 and the most quiet. Now that I can hold her I've been able to clean the wound really well today. No question, that these little ones need to be taken to the vet, but unfortunately their care was put on the back burner with the arrival of two more cats at Golden Pines.

Yes, that's two.  Late Wednesday evening, I got a call that two more cats had been trapped, one kitten, and an adult . When they arrived it was easy to see that this new kitten didn't belong with the others because of its size.  However, it does "match" the adult.

The two new comers were taken to the vet and both girls were spayed, and returned to Golden Pines on Thursday evening. The "Momma Cat" is quiet and we've left her alone to recover.  The kitten on the other hand, is all feral, and each meeting (so far) is met with a lot of growling, hissing and swatting at me.  Tomorrow morning I'm meeting with someone to try and sort out the details for vet care and fostering for the cats.

Aside from being as my brother said, "one cat away from being the crazy cat lady" Charlie is still crazy about the kittens and is taking his job as their nanny very seriously.
He's allowing supervised visits.
But I have a feeling that these kittens at some point just may be able to hold their own, even against Todd.

I hope you're having a good weekend!

  1. They can hold their own against Todd, but only if he wishes and Scottie hearts are big.

  3. Well, what will this week find for you? Maybe even your brother's words will ring true!!! We have been so lucky with wee Boris, now he is at last just over 2000 gms, and is off for castration on Tuesday. Your heart and home are so welcoming, and I am sure the care and vet treatment will all get sorted. love the wee feral tabby girl, and your care of the first babies, top notch. they will thrive. And with the pack looking on, Charlie has his work cut out every day.

  5. Kim - you are wonderful - we don't know how you do it ! We're dog, not "cat" people, but you have opened your heart and home to these poor little creatures. Of course Charlie's help has made a big difference, bless him - he'll miss them when they go. We do hope that you find happy homes for them all.

  7. Hello Kim, you are just amazing taking in all the kitties and dogs. I have to admit I am a dog person and have been around some kitties that scare me silly. I just love your cute dogs, Charlie is just a real sweetie! Have a happy day and new week ahead!

  8. It is kitten season and a foster lady I know has 30 of them. Now, she truly is a crazy cat lady, you, however, are just a lovely, kind person with a big heart.

  9. I heard a story of a woman with 64 cats this week, that sort of makes 5 seem reasonable. I keep hearing stories about kittens needing homes, so sad. Hope these ones aren't too much work!

  12. Sounds like you've made good progress with the first three. I hope the little one will be OK. I don't think I could combine cats with my crazy pack.
