~A freshly groomed Todd on Thursday~ |
Despite our internet being spotty at best since Friday, (
knock on wood that it's easily and quickly resolved), its been a quiet weekend. Our crew meeting Sherlock the newcomer, as hoped was thankfully, uneventful. He's been easily accepted into the group, which is great news, and always a relief.
Some of you mentioned in my last post, that maybe Sherlock's reasons for not responding to us, may be because of his hearing, or possibly because he doesn't understand English. Both are possibilities. Golden Retrievers rescued from the streets and shelters of Istanbul, Turkey earlier this summer were flown to a rescue in Atlanta. The dogs had to be taught English, and their caretakers a few Turkish words. I think you'll agree that we will just have to get to know him better to hopefully figure it out.
What I do know is Sherlock really is a nice boy. He follows us all around the house and the yard, and is interested in whatever we're doing. He is rough around the edges, and needs (re) training on his house-manners -- It's all no doubt from being a stray and outside for an extended period of time. He's also a bit too interested in the cats, so we'll work on curbing his over interest in them. But all in all, I think he's going to be okay.
I hope you have a good week!
I'm sure the other Goldens will help Sherlock to understand the way to behave at Golden Pines - using their own canine language.
ReplyDeleteHe looks so sweet in that last picture. I think he will work out just fine.
ReplyDeleteHe is adorable - I'm sure that Golden Pines crew will start his training soon!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Sherlock is mixing in well with your gang. He looks happy to have a home.
ReplyDeleteWow, that face....
ReplyDeleteso happy he's safe now.
Glad to hear he's settling in!
ReplyDeleteEdgar and his mum
i adore him. :)
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see him settling in, Love that face...Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteHe looks part of the family already, and I'm sure so soon his manners will be perfect. Your heart of gold is huge.
ReplyDeleteTodd, you are ROCKIN' the haircut! Sherlock, you are one handsome boy. Ruby is a rescue girl. She was totally ignored in her previous home and has NEVER learned to listen. Now, as a senior, she is deaf - I think :-)
ReplyDeleteTell him that he's now in the Ottoman Empire and you're the Emperor.
ReplyDeleteSherlock has a "I'm a good boy" looking face.
ReplyDeleteI hope he settles in just fine!
I think I needed an "an" above instead of an "a."
ReplyDeleteHe's gorgeous !
ReplyDeleteWe have two mature retired breeding female yellow Labs. One comes from a kennel in France, and the other, a new addition to the family, comes from a kennel in Southern Spain. In between teaching them both a little English we talk to them in their own language too. Somehow, it doesn't matter what language we use when it comes to meal times !!
Sherlock sounds like a sweetie! And of course, we think Todd looks very handsome.
ReplyDeleteEven if he knows a different language - he'll catch on and learn. He looks like an intelligent dog. Todd is looking good, bet he smells pretty too!
ReplyDeleteSherlock looks as if he's settling in just fine. His new life will certainly be an improvement on the old. Istanbul is a wonderful city but it's dispiriting for dog owners to see so many dogs wandering the street their backs swarming with flees so thick their coats are obscured..
ReplyDeletewith the collective love sent his way from all of us...
ReplyDeleteand the love he gets there at golden pines... it's a short time i'm thinkin' before he's an old paw around the place!
like you... a sigh of relief that everyone is accepting of him. XOXO♥
Gosh, I didn't realize it had been so long since I "visited" Golden Pines. We've been having some health issues. So nice to catch up.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I am amazed at that sweet expression on Georgie"s face. What a difference from when he first came in. He looks so happy. Small wonder he is so contented.
I laughed about your neighbors moving so relatively close to you when they have so much room. It reminds me when we go to the movie theatre that is practically empty. About 5 minute into the movie, it is not uncommon for someone to find their way directly in front or beside us! I guess people just want to be close like a litter of puppies!
Sherlock is one fortunate pup to have found your home. He must have been on the street for a while judging by his thinness. Poor baby. He already looks so happy. He knows where the love and food is. His face reminds me a little of Annie. I think it is the look in his eyes. Sweet boy.
Gus' Mom
Hi Kim, Seems like forever since I've stopped by. Sherlock is one handsome fellow and I would have snatched him up in a second(always loved Labs). What a angle you are to give him a home, for however long. Hope you have a great day and fantastic Thanksgiving. We've so much to be thankful for.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen and Hunter
So glad Sherlock is fitting in with the rest of the pack. Hopefully he will learn how to be an indoor dog very quickly.
ReplyDeleteSherlock is so beautiful and looks so kind. I think Todd will teach him words to understand,,,, his vocabulary will grow!

Lucky Sherlock! My thoughts are it's possible he has been tied outside most of his life. Many dogs that endure that won't respond to typical words other dogs know--because they've often not had much attention put into them---plus they love freedom because it has been so rare in their lives. Sadly I've met a few like that. Hopefully at one time he did know love and care and that will come back to him. Having the other dogs around will help him allot as he learns to learn!
ReplyDeleteBless you!
Tammy
Sherlock is a cute, he reminds me of my old yellow lab Sunshine. I hope he blends in well with the group and is easily trained. He is a cutie. Good luck! Enjoy your day and week ahead!
ReplyDeleteI just love him! I'm glad that he's getting along with the rest of the pack!
