It's hay cutting time here in northern Virginia. Over the last few weeks despite the rain I've watched the hay mature and ripen in the fields and thought how beautiful it was as I drive past. The farmers here usually get two cuttings of hay during the summer. But if Mother Nature cooperates, they
might get three cuttings.
Tonight the air is humid and as a light rain falls the smell of the fresh cut hay and honeysuckle fills the air. Along the treeline there is the flash of lightening bugs. It's truly a night where you can't help but notice that it feels like summer.
I also noticed this afternoon that Berkley seems pretty happy and relaxed. He fits in really well at our house. His foster home mentioned that he has some separation anxiety, but I've not noticed any of that. He seems to really like the other dogs, (and vice-versa) and he's totally "bullet-proof" with the cats. I think its been a good week with him.

Ohhhh soo beautiful the pastures with the bales of hay,, and you know what? We can smell the honeysuckle,, abd fresh cut hay,,,, just as you describe,, and we can see the lightning bugs,, just as you describe!

ReplyDeleteIt sure does feel like summer here in Upstate NY as well! It is much more humid and warmer than we are used to at this time of year. They are also spreading a lot of manure on all of the fields around us...which doesn't go so well with the humidity...let me tell you!! So glad to hear Berkeley is doing well!

ReplyDeleteWe will have to watch to see if the lady who owns the mini donkeys near us bales some hay soon too - she had quite the crop last fall. It is amazing how much those noisy guys can eat:)

Haven't had a great week. The rain is here. Glad the farmers are having some sun so they can harvest. Berkley looks right at home. We're surprised he hasn't found a forever family yet.

We have the lovely fields of baled hay as well. But I haven't seen a lightning bug yet. I get just as excited as a child when I see them. Glad you had a good week.
