A Forever Home for Sugar

I read recently that some bloggers view blogging as a sprint, rather than a marathon. I'm not sure about the sprint, but I do know I'm here to try and go the distance with my blog, no matter how far behind I get.  And right now, I'm really behind on keeping it updated and reading your blogs too.

Having said that, I want to tell you that our foster girl for Lab Rescue, Sugar, found her forever home a couple of weeks ago. I am never ready to let go of some of my fosters and Sugar was no exception. I felt a real connection with Sugar, and wanted to adopt and keep her. I'm not sure what kept me from going through with it.  Fate perhaps.

~Sugar, the first week we met~

The senior couple that adopted Sugar, could not love or adore her any more than they do. The post-adoption updates have all been glowing reports about how much they love her and how well she's doing.  I did however mention to them several times that Sugar is a typical Lab, and will get into any food that is within her reach. And that she did. Sugar helped herself to an entire cabinet of food that included a box of granola bars, tortilla chips, bread and cookies -- I tried to warn them. She did end up with a pretty upset tummy. But she is fine now, and aside from that, I do think they are perfect for Sugar and I know she is where she is supposed to be.

~Sugar and her new forever family~

But I do miss her.

  3. You wouldn't do what you do unless you had attachment to them. Sugar is where she should be and it makes room for another who needs you.

  4. Perhaps they didn't believe you. Now they'll store the food a little further out of reach. Unfortunately like most small children Sugar won't remember. Until next time. if there is a next time.

  5. Sugar will be in your memories and your heart, her new home has been chosen with much care, and they look like this is a true match. Be assured, there will be so many like you who want to hold onto every dog or cat who comes into their lives, and to make a decision for their forever home cannot ever be easy.Sugar has gone with all your love.

  6. Awwwwww... Sugar's goal in life has been met = to be loved by many!! What a lucky dog she is! Have a wonderful life, Sugar, and may the updates about her grand life be of some comfort to you, precious friend. Your part in her life has been carried out, as short as it was... a very important part that would have not led to happiness if you hadn't been there. God bless you, Kim! ~Andrea xoxo

  8. It is always good news when a dog finds her/his forever home, but I can understand your feelings in losing Sugar. Knowing she is safe with good people who keep in touch with you is wonderful to read.

  9. So glad that Sugar has found her forever home. I can imagine how hard it must have been for you to let her go, but you know that she will be well cared for, and most of all loved. You gave her time to adjust to living in a loving home.
Had to smile about her helping herself to the goodies in the food cabinet - has there ever been a Lab. that won't find food!

  11. I am happy that Sugar has a great forever home! If my Alex had longer legs(he's a Bichon mix - 18 pounds of craziness!)he would be constantly counter surfing. Now he can just sniff the floor looking for crumbs!!!

  15. We are sure it was hard to part ways with Sugar, but it is wonderful that she now has a wonderful forever home. At the same time, we know she also would have had that if she had stayed with you:) We included you in our special Misty post today - thanks again.

  18. Tortilla chips and Granola bars. Sugar seems like a very sensible girl and quite the gourmand.

  19. Sugar looks like a happy girl. She was just breaking in her new family by showing them what Labs do. Norma Jean was obsessed with the cookies Mom baked for the nighbors. She actually stole a sugar cookie and was going for more when she got caught. Just part of life with dogs.
