A Few Days in Tennessee

Have you ever felt like the world was being just too much? Where things and life were pushing in, crowding out your quiet thoughts and you feel exhausted, overly tired, irritable ... Need I say more?

Many of you know that's how I've been feeling the last few months. For me, there is no better place to remedy all that than to unwind in my happy place.... A cabin owned by friends in eastern Tennessee, where I've been with Todd and Max for the past several days.

Out in this section of the hinterland, there are fewer people.

There’s the huge sky full of beautiful clouds, mountains, and the people are always welcoming and warm as has been the summer sunshine.

In the morning, there are of course birds singing and there is the pecking on the kitchen window made by a male-Cardinal who we named John -- We have seen him at this window for the last 3 years.
And for the first time since I was a kid at my Grandfather's in Kentucky, at sunset, I am hearing the call of a Whip-poor-will off in the distance. What memories that brings back!

All of this allows my mind to settle and those inner-batteries to recharge -

And Todd and Max have fun too!

So tell me, where do you go when you need to think? What do you do when you need to get your sense of humor and smile back ...

and restore yourself?

  1. At our other home , I walked under the tall trees, sat on a stump, by our two cats graves, and listened to the leaves playing, the little stream below with water slowly making its way to the sea. looked at the sky and clouds, and after a while decided to start life again. So glad you have your own place to go, to take some friends along, and come home refreshed. Life, with sadness, death and new arrivals means your days have all been overwhelming, let this time away bring healing memories back with you.

  2. When things become too much, I head for the bathroom and take a long warm bath. I put on music and let Calgon take me away.

  3. That sounds just so delightful. I would love a place like that for escape time. Life is pretty hectic here for me now with the grands out of school for the summer and lots of rides needed for different activities. I love being able to help as my own memories of my grandmother are of a very old woman who was not always very pleasant and spent little time with the grands. I am also busy helping the twin grands catch up on the math (Algebra and Geometry) that Covid robbed them of for the end of 7th grade and all of 8th grade. I am hoping to send them off to high school feeling ready to take on their new math courses. To say I am pooped at the end of the day is an understatement. It's a good thing it is too hot for long walks with the dogs or they would be complaining. We do manage a short one for each of them.

  4. What beautiful, calming scenery to help you unwind. I'm so glad that Todd and Max were there to share your solitude, and help you find peace of mind.
Fortunately, now I'm retired, and with no immediate family to call on me, it's not often that I get stressed out, and not for long periods. Of course I have Inca, my Lab, who is a constant companion and makes everything right in the world.
    Take care.

  5. That does sound like a perfect place to relax and unwind. Luckily for me our home on 5 acres has been that place, especially now that I'm retired. Week days are the most peaceful when most people are at work and nobody is running a mower/weed whacker/leaf blower. Hanging out in our backyard with the dogs is my idea of peace.

  6. Oooh Kim, I'm so incredibly happy for you, that you've gotten the chance to go to your happy place to recharge! Only the Good Lord knows how much you needed it after "everything". Your pictures are absolutely gorgeous and I can only imagine the peace and tranquility you & your furry family members are experiencing. Long live cabins... and those generous friends who own them. ~Andrea xoxoxoxo

  13. Hi friends! Ojo here! You look lovely in these photos, this must be a relaxing and happy place indeed! We have been living in our relaxing place for the past 15 months hiding out from the people-pandemic. Soon we need to go back to the city. My person is not looking forward to it, because she agrees that the world can feel like too much. I however am looking forward to it because it means I get to live with my whole family again, AND I get my yard back! We hope you enjoy your rest and relaxation time! <3

  15. My husband cannot travel any more, so I recharge at home, by looking at my vintage cards collection, by beading and cross stitching or better yet, just having a window open, the pets all secure on the bed with me, and reading or remembering. What a lovely place you are at in Tennessee! I really like that porch with the "sheep fencing" so the doggies can enjoy it, too!
