Good Karma

Hot, sunny and searing temperatures end the week.  I was in a hurry to get home this afternoon after work, but had to run a few errands. While I was waiting at a red-light, an elderly gentleman was crossing the road and as he hurried across, he tripped and fell right in front of me--I watched him try twice to get back to his feet, but both times he fell again. I got out of my van to help him, and a man in the car next to me did too.  As we were helping him to his feet, the red light changed.  I couldn't believe it when the person in the car behind me impatiently started honking his horn--He also rolled down his window and started yelling and swearing at us to hurry up. The man that had fallen said he was okay (although terribly embarrassed) and he thanked us.  I took my time getting back in my car, but not before I smiled and blew a kiss to the man who was still upset that we were delaying him.  My gesture of course made him a little madder but I thought to myself how sad that he put himself above someone who needed help.

I rushed in and out of the grocery store and as I was putting my groceries into my van, I looked down and there was a little Yorkshire Terrier looking at me.  I was a bit surprised and looked around to see if I could see where he'd come from.  I realized he was a little renegade so I tried to catch him but he ran off, through the parking lot.  About that time I heard a woman's frantic voice calling a name.  I went to her and found out that the dog belonged to her.  Pointing in the direction where the dog had gone, I got into my van and tried to keep track of the dog.  I caught only glimpses of him through the cars and traffic.  Because he was so small, I lost sight of him and his owner as well.  Another quick circle around the parking lot, and I saw the owner holding her dog!  I was so thankful she'd managed to catch him!  The dog was so hot (as was she) and I gave them each a couple of bottles of water and a portable dog bowl I had. She thanked me and offered to pay me for the water and bowl.  Of course I refused and started home, glad that owner and dog were reunited!

With the holiday weekend, traffic was unbearable--But I think because I'd helped 2 strangers, 'good-karma' was there and I found a way around it and got home pretty easily.  I'm hoping that tomorrow morning when I take Sam to the vet, there will be 'good karma' for him too.  The left side of his face has become really swollen this week and is affecting his eye.  I know he's in pain.  I've increased the dose of pain medication and it seems to help.  I'm hopeful there will be something that can be done.  Paws crossed...I'm overwhelmingly worried about Sam.

  1. Interesting start to your weekend. But bless you for doing the good deeds. Praying that Sam will be able to be treated to alleviate the swelling and help with his pain.

  4. Kim, your account in the karma bank has been overflowing for a long, long time. That's something I know for sure. I hope and pray that Sam will be able to get help. And how great that the little dog and its owner were reunited.

  5. I am so proud of the way you responded to the impatient driver. I am afraid I would have been a bit more aggressive with my language and instead of blowing a kiss, I might have sent a different message.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you and Sam tomorrow, you both deserve good news.

  7. We are so happy the lady and her little dog were reunited. I know in her heart she is probably still thanking you for the help you offered and for the water for them.
And the poor old man---thank goodness you were there to help him.
There is just not enough good people in the world who will stop and help.
Your heart is always in the right place to give and love others.

  11. I can't understand those people who wouldn't help a stranger in a time of need. Thank goodness there are others like you (and me) that help to redress the balance. I'm so glad the lady got her little dog back.

Sending you and Sam love and hugs and wishing him well at the vets.

  14. I shudder to think what might have happened if the angry man had been first in line at the light when the older gentleman fell. Thanks for being there and helping him out.

Good luck to Sam at his vet visit.

  17. Dear Kim, I feel like you are an angel in disguise. What a blessing to both the man and the lady& pup for you to be in the very area where they needed help. I haven't thought about a portable dog dish in the car-but putting one in today-as well as some bottled water. Poor Sam, saw your FB post-definitely praying for him and you.

  18. Blessings on you, Kim, for your acts of kindness. As a 73 year old, I really am thrilled when I hear that you helped this old gent up and got him off the street. What the horn blower doesn't realize is that eventually we all wind up old and teetery (with luck anyway!)but we still want to keep going as long as we can. I don't know if your Karma will transfer to Sam, but I hope it does. I feel proud to know you.

    Cheers,
    Jo, Stella and Zkhat

  19. Bless you dear. We need more people like you in this world. Obviously the man honking needs lessons in patience. If he only knew that he is getting opportunities to learn patience but ignoring them. Silly man, they will keep coming. So happy the little dog was reunited with his human. Enjoy your weekend. Keeping Sam in my prayers and sending lots of healing love.

  22. It's those spontaneous acts of unselfishness that promises hope for the human race. I would have followed that up with walking back to the A-hole's car behind yours and adjusting his side view mirror with my foot. It's the least I could do (more karma in the bank) .... BOL

Opps, did I say that out loud?

Blowing a kiss was even better.

  23. You really are a guardian angel Kim. Sending healing, positive thoughts for dear Sam. :0)

  24. Oh Kim, you are an angel and good karma will follow. Thank you so much for helping both individuals-it just means a lot to me. Whenever I help someone I say a prayer that when my mom who is 83 needs help, I hope someone extends a kind hand.
Keep us posted on SAm...hoping that Good Karma follows you there...

  25. Good Karma for sure. The world needs more people like you. I had a similar incident yesterday. I was at a crop and we decided to go to Burlington coat factory for a break. I saw 3 bunnies for easter on clearance and decided to purchase them. When I got to the register the lady said to me that she was hoping no one would buy the basket because she liked it for her. I told her to not charge me for it and put it aside for herself. Well she told me that since she had already taken her break that they would not let her put it aside. I bought it for her and gave it to her as a gift. She hugged and cried telling me that no one had ever done that for her. She was so happy. I left with my other 2 bunnies happy knowing that I had brighten someones day.
I hope Sam's vet visit goes well. Paws crossed.

  26. What a wonderful start to the weekend! I hope that good karma does follow you. It certainly sounds like you need -- and deserve -- it!

BTW, I don't know if you're aware, but someone is attaching links from your blog to theirs when their posts have nothing to do with yours. You might want to go into your settings and disable it so that others can't steal your Google ranking.

  27. You sound like me. I'm always getting involved helping someone or an animal. Trouble just seems to find me, oh well thank goodness for people like us. What would the world be like if it had more people like the man honking his horn. Does he not realize someday he will be old too. Make's me so mad. Keep up the good work and bless you.

  32. I believe it was Mother Theresa who said "there will always be critics of your acts of kindness. Do them anyway." There are at least two people and one fur person who are super glad that you crossed their paths yesterday. Bless your heart and silent prayers for Sam.
