Its been nearly a week since I posted, and I honestly don't know where the week has gone. On Monday Carl saw the orthopedist and a cast was put onto his leg. He returned to work Tuesday. However he's still limited in what he is able to do. Because of that, the daily list of things for me to do is really pretty long. Unfortunately along with work it has been zapping any extra time out of the day and taking the joy along with it. When everything falls on your shoulders it can be overwhelming.
I feel so lucky in that I have good, supportive friends who have shared my load by listening, brought baked treats and even taken me to lunch. Each have told me the truth as they see it. And that truth is, is that no-one has a life that looks like a pinterest board. No one has a life that stays like the page in a magazine. And no one can go through life without having those days (or weeks) where the to-do list has things listed on it that should have been done last week--Like the work on our barn...

So today, I've decided to remain positive in the midst of crazy. With the dogs and their antics and positive energy, I am ready to do just that. I just need to remember to hang on, because like Todd, the ride may continue to be fast and a little bit bumpy!
i have a much quieter life and i still need to remind myself to cling to the positive. i hope your weekend is a good one, kim.
ReplyDeleteHey Kim, great words of wisdom. Praying that things calm down and Carl heals quickly. :)
ReplyDeleteGo Todd, Go!!
Those simple words to always keep in mind:
ReplyDeleteThis, too, shall pass away!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
You can only do what you can do. Slow and steady wins the race - with the exception of Mr. Todd!
ReplyDeleteLife would be boring if it were like a pinterest board or a page in a magazine ! Life is to live and live the best you can and go with the flow I say . Life is to short to dash around making sure lists are done more to life then that . Sit back breath and enjoy life . Hope you, Carl and your clan have a good relaxing weekend !
ReplyDeleteLet the world around you go mad
ReplyDeleteChin up
Kim, believe it will all work out in the end, do as much as you are able, don't try to do EVERYTHING, it will keep till another day. Your friends, and dogs will be there, and Carl will get back to be the usual hard-working man, again, one day. Overwhelmed, yes I felt that way a few months ago when Hugh has a heart attack, and another the same day in hospital. True friends and their care, love support and so much more, their value cannot be measured. Accept it all, as one day you might be able to pay it foreward. Love your words, they uplift so much. Fond greetings form Jean.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry things are in the over the top mode.....it is not fun...I know all about it...I took care of my parents for 17 years......from age 35 to age 53... It was just beyond beyond...at the end of it all I was living with my husband at my parents house and my husband fell almost 30 ft....he broke his neck and back and multiple ribs ....scapula...and by some miracle not one of his breaks was Displaced and he had survived the worst...
ReplyDeleteIt was a very long recuperation and we survived it all....
Thank God the only thing your husband broke was his foot...not that that isn't bad enough and not fun.....but it could have been so much worse...
I know exactly how you are feeling....but it will get better...I wish I was down the street and could help with the animals...just take one thing at a time and do the best you can ...and spoil yourself every chance you can get..give yourself permission to let some things go....lots of xxxxxxx's your way!!!
I think you are headed in the right direction. And what TRUTH there is in this: "seeing the beauty in the everyday ordinary things and Charlie too." Amen.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Goose
I want that pinterest life, but I'll probably never have it. Life goes on, our life is so much more interesting with its bumps in the road than a perfect life would be.

I gave up perfection long ago. My house is a mess most of the time, my garden has way too many weeds, and there are always things on the To Do list that ride from week to week. Whatever NEEDS to be done is different than what you feel you SHOULD get done ... discerning the difference is an art that I'm still working to master. In the face of the mess and the chaos, I throw open my door to visitors at a moment's notice. Friends understand ... others may judge, but I don't care.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear that your husband is on the mend. Sweet pups, as always ... love messy Charlie's face!
Howdy Everybuddy, we're lucky mum is a bit of a lazy old girl. She does her best to keep the house clean, spend time with us and the kids, get out for coffee and cake, work and of course help us blog but all in all, she has realised, it doesn't matter how fast (or slow) you do things time flows by either way. Sometimes you just have to live life a day at a time especially when it's hectic. Take care, eat cake (it always helps mum hehe) and paws crossed Carl's leg gets better real soon. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory (and Carol)
ReplyDeleteOh boy, do I ever know what you mean! Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteHang in there, Kim!
ReplyDeleteLove your phrase
"in the midst of crazy"
I feel like I live there most days.
Yep, your just follow Toods lead, he seem to all under control, and Charlie looks fine, we like the hair doo, and yes, Dad & Mom have those days were its better to stay outside till they are ready for us to cheer them up! Cause thats why us poochies are around, (Again, See Todd).

Kim,
ReplyDeleteStay positive. I promise things will get better and you will look back at all this and wonder why you were feeling so crazy and overwhelmed. We can only do so much and you have to have some time for fun and laughter or whats the point.
Take care.
Hi Kim, maybe crazy at times but the love of a good man and those beautiful faces of our beloved pets is a blessing.......keep positive my friend, hold on for the bumps along the road.....will be smooth sailing some days, Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautifully positive attitude! You WILL make it through this time & as my mama always used to say... "You don't have to look very far to find someone who has it a lot worse than you do, Annie!" How I remember those words of hers... and realize they're true... every single time!!
ReplyDeleteXOXOXO
When I do stare at Pinterest I think "who has the time for all this"? Maybe way back when, when women stayed home, but we working girls can't sit around making crepe paper flowers and soap.
ReplyDeleteMy life will never be like a magazine (who sees chihuahua poop on a magazine sofa?), what with my my mom and brother, I doubt I'll ever have another sane day.
We just have to be happily oblivious to the outside influences and calmly lead our lives day to day. And yours rocks.
Except for Carl. He's kinda clumsy. :)
love,
barbara
Hi Kim. You are not Todd, nor are you Charlie, Lucas or Annie.....you are Kim and doing one hell of a job juggling all that you are right now. Jean from NZ was correct ......'some day you may be able to pay it forward'! Or as they say in these parts.....'what goes around comes around'.
ReplyDeleteGive yourself a few seconds throughout the day just FOR YOU.
take care.
Remember that you are amazing, Kim, and an Angel, too.
ReplyDeleteHope Carl heals quickly.
*hugs* ♥
A very good attitude, and really what else can you do but freak out, and get upset.
ReplyDeleteThings will come together, and you will relax soon.

Such a great post!! It reminds me of something funny that my husband says all of the time. Whenever there is a gorgeous dog on television he also jokes and says that what they don't show on Tv is the dogs stinky ears and breath, the matted hair and disgusting skid marks on the carpet. LOL. For some reason, this cracks me up ~ I think because it is so true. Just like our lives, messy, smelly, busy and happy. : )
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend. I wish you lots of calm.
I think Charlie just sums it all up! I love that dog. And I agree with you all the way, Kim. NO one has a perfect anything!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post and so very true. It's a good reminder.....funny how trying to be something no one could ever be seems to stress us all out. :) Happy Thursday!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you went through this when you lived in Alaska but Jan. and Feb. are my tough months with the super short days. I haven't seen the sun shine in weeks and am really feeling the effects. I know the days are starting to get longer now but I'm just not feeling it...just want to hibernate like a big ole' bear right now.
ReplyDeleteGrrrrr
I understand! 8 weeks after my knee was replaced, Gary totally tore his Achilles tendon (he had been taking care of the horses etc.) and I was left with full duty! It sure makes you appreciate things tho, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteHi Kim. Carl, you, and the pups are in my prayers. Life is funny... we try to focus on the positive and be optimistic but life in it's true form seems to rear its ugly head sooner or later and get in the way of our perfect lives. *sigh* What a nice looking bunch you have highlighted for today! And Charlie! You look adorable, as always. Gracie is pretty shaggy right now and is going to the groomer on Saturday. I love the shaggy look, but she is hard to keep clean this time of year and insists on sleeping in our bed. So to the groomer we go! I hope you have a great, stress-free, fun weekend!
ReplyDeleteHang on Kim- we are hanging with you!
ReplyDeleteDon't let those overwhelming feeling tangle around your ankles and pull you down-- just hang on and go with the flow.
love
tweedles
Hang in there, Kim! We're behind you, and your message applies to all of us. I cussed at myself today for being so far behind... but you're right - things are never picture perfect and we all go through these phases.
ReplyDeleteI love the dog photos. They make me smile!
I gave up trying to do it all a long time ago. Impossible! And usually the stuff we worry about doesn't matter. Hope you have a great weekend Kim.
ReplyDeleteRooooooos to you Kim. You have a lot on your plate. You don't have to clean it every day. Just scrape the big chunks off. I'm sure the dogs will take care of the rest.
ReplyDeleteAnnie is lovely as usual.
Dear Kim,
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to drop by and send you my love and encouragement. I'm sorry to hear that things are rough at the moment. I hope Carl's leg heals up really soon.
Remember, this is a only temporary hurdle.
I hope you don't mind me sharing an 'image' with you:
"Your animals and your loved ones depend on you to ensure that your own personal 'glass of energy and inspiration' doesn't empty itself out. If your glass is empty, you cannot pour it out to them - they need you to look after yourself. It is important to keep filling up your glass with things that are good and inspirational for YOU - particularly when things are tough. Be gentle on yourself and don't worry about the perfection of having your 'glass'filled to the brim. It is more important to ensure that it doesn't empty itself out."
Sending lots of (((Hugs)))and love to you.
C
If only Charlie could speak he'd be telling you to pull up a chair and share a freshly cooked sausage.
ReplyDeleteSending hugs! We are behind in our blog and reading blogs - between a sudden onslaught of work and Mom's headaches, it has been hard to keep up.
ReplyDeleteSam
Amen.
ReplyDeleteThinking about you today...I hope your getting by today...treat yourself to something ...its ok...!! decide on one thing your not going to do today and be ok with it!!!! sometimes it is the right thing!!!! hope Mr. is better really soon!!!
ReplyDeletekisses to the fourlegged!!! xxxxx's to you!

Well said Miss Kim. Our mommy likes all the cool recipes and home ideas on Pinterest, but having a life like those photos just isn't realistic! We're hoping you have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteSmooches from pooches,
BabyRD & Hootie
ps-Love your photos. The pooches look great!!
Mama's been having some of those 'one foot in front of another' days, too. We'll keep our paws crossed for Carl's speedy recovery [he's just now getting a cast?] and for your serenity.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be great if we could all live in a Pinterest World?? Just do what you can Kim...it will be there tomorrow! Hope your husband is feeling better!! Hang in there...xo Jeanne
ReplyDeleteThere is no such thing as perfect. How boring would that be? :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, meaningful post. Yep, we're all in this life together. Thank God for people like you. hugs...
ReplyDeleteMy to do list has things much older than last week!
ReplyDeleteLike you my life took a crazy turn last year, but I found if I aim for "progress not perfection" the ride gets more enjoyable, and some stuff really doesn't matter if it gets done or not.
Have a great weekend,
Riley's human
Oh you do have your hands full! I hope Carl heals quickly. But your right, life isn't a magazine cover story and you can only do so much as a "real" person. So just try and pace yourself and just do what you can do and don't beat yourself up about the rest. The world will not end and it will all get done eventually. :)
