Always on Guard

A rainy and busy start to our Saturday.  We caught up on things inside while the dogs napped their day away.
Todd chose to nap on the porch by the back door.
I really didn't want him out in the rain.  And despite bribing Todd with treats to get him to come back inside, he had other ideas, and wanted to stay outside. So I let him.
The Goldens (and even Charlie) always want to be wherever we are.  But Todd, in any weather, enjoys and wants to be outside, on guard and never missing a thing. I've learned it's just part of what and who he is.

  2. Todd is such a sweetie, how would he not want to be out there, and the goldens, comfort is in close company always. Cheers to all at your home, Jean.

  4. It must be interesting to have a Todd in the family who is so different from all the Goldens. It's wonderful that you've accepted him and loved him for who he is!

I hope the rain is stopping!

  5. My little black Scottie Otis, was very much the same way. When we would walk, if someone would approach me to talk, Otis would move in between us, and not move until the other person and I parted company! The same way around our home. They are rare little guys, those Scots!

    Cheers,
    Jo

  8. Though we scotties like to be in the same room with our peep, we LOVE being outside at the gate watching the action in the 'hood. But we don't do that in the rain.

  10. Accepting who your dog is can be so important to having a good relationship with them. It's something I had to get my husband to accept, and he is MUCH happier with one of our pups now. :) I enjoyed this post!

  12. Roscoe is the same way, he wants to be outside most of the time, but if it is raining I do not let him out. I don't want to deal with having to dry him afterwards.
Our weather is yucky here in the Sunshine state, lots of rain and very humid. Ana

  15. A good guard dog is very important, size doesn't matter, it is their alertness and then their voice voice that counts. Thanks for your kind words, Kim, you are a very special person.

  17. While nine of my dogs want to be wherever I am, Sydney wants to be outside watching fr squirrels. It's hard for me to adjust to having an outside dog, but she's much happier and easier to live with if I leave her out most of the day.

  18. that's cute. My dogs want nothing to do with being outside if it's raining - not even to do their business. :)

  19. letting a dog do what they want, while still conforming to the pack rhythm and hierarchy, makes for happy dogs. Todd is a rebel. Every big pack needs at least one. :-)

  22. Well done Todd. He is doing what his breed does best, protecting his family.
I love that barn...it is beautiful.
I envy you your rain although we did have rain here in Perth after 4 months of none at all. How different our climate is to yours. Amazing. I nearly wept when I heard the rain on our roof on the weekend. A wonderful sound to one starved of rain. Most other states have been having rain for several weeks so they are fortunate.

  23. The napping part sounds like what my two would do!! I have heard that scotties are kind of independent though. Hope all is well with you and your pack!!

  25. I just knew it was Todd when I read the title of your post. Where does he fall in the lineup of top dog? And do Charlie and Todd have any similar traits, both being terriers?
I knew Rudy and Wendy were the matriarchs, but I was wondering who took their place. With so many dogs it must be an interesting dynamic.

  26. That is interesting that Todd prefers to lay in the rain. Ryker is not a big fan of rain and avoids it unless it involves a Frisbee.

and he simply loves the cold fresh air. just in his dna!
wonder if he dreams a highland dream?
