The Year Ends

~Charlie~
Our week may be a short one, but it has been busy trying to get everything done so a couple days off can be enjoyed. Monday began with an issue in getting Gus's medication refilled when his "regular" vet was ill and out of the office.  The vet that was working that day didn't feel "comfortable" refilling them.  I didn't understand what the issue was, especially because it is an antibiotic that Gus has been taking for about 6 months now. I was told Gus would have to wait until today (Wednesday) to get the medication. Because I called on Friday (the 26th) when he ran out, not being able to get the refill until Wednesday meant Gus would be off the antibiotic for six days--Too long in my opinion because I feel that we walk a bit of a tight-rope with Gus and his health. I tried to explain all of that to the girls at the front desk, who are "new girls" to the practice, don't know me, or Gus, but none of what I said made a difference. They were simply following the "doctors orders" (as they should have). Me however, I was feeling a whole list of things in trying to explain why I *needed* to have the medication for Gus. Fortunately the holistic vet that sees Gus was able to prescribe the refill for him, and I'm extremely grateful to Dr. E for that. I've since spoken to Gus's "regular" vet about the mix-up, and we have both made adjustments in how Gus's medications will be refilled in the future to avoid this problem again.
~Gus~
Onward to Tuesday we went and it was all about Beau's visit to the dermatologist that went pretty well.

Today, Wednesday is about Cissy.  To keep this short, and get you back to celebrating the New Year, I'll update you on them in my next post.

  5. I'm so glad your persistence with Gus's antibiotics paid off, and that you can avoid the problem in the future. You have way too much to do without that hassle.

I hope you can enjoy some restorative peace and quiet now, and that the new year is a happy one.

I hope Cissy is all right.

  9. Such a frustrating episode. Glad it all worked out. (*I don't know the details of Beau's skin issues but recently discovered the benefit of Coconut Oil on Ginny's bare as a bone tail. I've been rubbing it in for a month now and hair is actually growing back in. Just a thought if you think it might help Beau's issues)

  17. How worrying about the prescription. You'd think a look at the records could have solved that. But I suppose employees just follow orders. Glad you could get the prescription, so you didn't have to worry.

We hope you have a happy, healthy year. We know there'll be adventures!

Please know that although I don't comment often (because it seems a little SLOW commenting from my phone and I don't seem to get on my computer often!) I read everything you write and appreciate you and the "work" (labor of love would be what I would call it)you and Carl do with the poochies in need.

  25. Happy New Year to you and your family Kim! I'm glad things worked out okay for Gus. I might not have been as patient with the fill in vet as you were. And I'm happy you got things straightened out so they'll be better from now on! :)

  26. The dispensing of medication. Or lack of it. There always seem to be 'those' vets who secretly feel that the dog owners are the ones who are going to be taking the meds. Of course these events always and only happen when it's a holiday.

  35. I've just come across your blog and so glad I did. Your dogs are absolutely gorgeous! I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that has recently been diagnosed with Syringomyelia and so the medication and check ups are in full swing to make her life as comfortable as possible. Breaks my heart when she is in pain. I hope you all have a wonderful 2015xx
