The Lady, her dog Scruffy and her friend arrived early. During our visit, I did my best to not like the Lady and try to talk her out of liking Reggie/Sherlock.
But I realized about an hour after she was here, that in many ways she was like me in how she felt and cared about her dogs. And as hard as I tried, and believe me I tried, I felt I had to give her a chance at giving Reggie a forever home. ~The Lady and her friend walking Reggie~ |
~Reggie, the first day we met~ |
Letting Reggie go today has been harder than I thought it would be. I will and do really miss him.
But the e-mail that's below, that I received from Lab Rescue just a few minutes ago, and a voice mail has helped.
So far, so good with Sherlock. He made it home and was getting settled at Linda’s house. It appears Scruffy is underfoot a bit, but, is surviving too. The big test will come when they are left alone. Who knows....they may do pretty well! Linda use to raise dogs and is still very busy with dogs in many functions. I know she will provide a great place for Sherlock. I will keep you informed with Sherlock’s status. I did ask for photos once they were settled so I could share them with you!Take care and I will for sure keep you informed!Carol
It's so hard to let them go, but this may be a perfect match. I have always stayed in touch with my foster families and my puppy homes and they all became friends. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the update.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how you do it . . .
I am missing Reggie for you . . . I hope he won't be lonely for you.
Happy this gal was a good fit though . . .
Please keep us posted. We all want Reggie to have a happy forever home. You are a saint!
ReplyDeleteThat poor dog has to feel kicked around. I hope he sticks there.
ReplyDeleteI know you are feeling a little on empty right now. I would too. {{{HUGS}}}
ReplyDeleteLetting go is so hard, but if " The Lady" is any way part as caring and loving as you are, your darling boy will have a new home full of the TLC and more you gave.. What a caring email, and voice mail too, that shows loving kindness in people's hearts.
ReplyDeleteI do hope that "The Lady" loves Reggie as much as you (and we) did. You've trusted your instinct, and I'm sure it won't let you down. Labs are generally pretty tolerant dogs, so he will be a good companion, and friend, to Scruffy.
ReplyDeleteHello, I hope Reggie will be ok with his new home and friend Scruffy! He will be missed by all of us. Thank you for the update, you are an angel. Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!
ReplyDeleteI am sure there was nobody better to care for Reggie than you, but if Linda can give him the love and attention that you do, he will be in a good place.
ReplyDeleteI truly admire you for the work that you do. There is a lot of loss for you frequently and it must be so hard, yet rewarding. I am sure Reggie will do well with his new home and that it opens a spot in your home for another rescue in need. Keep on the awesome job that you do.
ReplyDeleteI hope Reggie will be happy in his new home and get along well with his new fur sibling. It's scenarios like this that keep me from being able to foster. I would have to keep them all.
ReplyDeletePraying that Reggie loves his new home & fits in well.It is so hard to let them go,phyllis
ReplyDeletenot sure why he had to go...
ReplyDeletebut i'm thinking that if he did... a forever home with just one other furry might be a good thing.
he will soon feel alright. his face when you met him was proof of his resilience! trying not to see his face in the next and read too much into it.
bless carol for knowing you'll need to know and SEE for yourself how he's doing. and bless you dear bean.
XOXO♥
By the sounds of it she and Sherlock/Reggie and Scruffy will all get along well and all will be happy . I hope it goes well . I couldn't do what you do , I would get attached to the dogs to much and I couldn't let them go with some one else to live , one reason I don't foster I would have hundreds of dogs lol ! Thanks for sharing , lovely photos , Keep us informed when you can . Have a good week !
ReplyDeleteGod bless you for doing what you do. We hope all will go well for Sherlock/Reggie

ReplyDeleteAwwww, pray Reggie is as loved and cared for as he was at Golden Pines. Hugs Francine.
ReplyDeleteWe know it must have been hard to let Reggie go, but it is so nice to know he has gone to a good home. We hope it works out well for him, but we are sure he will happily return to you if it doesn't. Hugs.

mom just cannot find the right words to tell you how proud of you she is for making the right decision for Reggie, its hard being a mom and learning to let go........you have a stronger heart than you will ever believe. stella rose and momma
ReplyDelete(((hugs))) to you, that has to be so hard. That is why I can't foster, I would want to keep them all. Praying all works out well! xoxo DakotasDen
ReplyDeleteLetting fosters go is SO HARD. But, at least you got to let him go to someone you trust is a good dog-mom. It wasn't some sketchy person you were on the fence about. Sounds like Reggie will have a nice home, and he can always come back to you if it doesn't work out.
ReplyDeleteYou do good things.
Did Todd approve the Lady because if he did you don't have to worry, Reggie will be just fine.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
oh, sweet boy. i hope he will like it.
ReplyDeleteI'll miss him too! But I have my fingers crossed for him either way.
ReplyDeleteOh,Kim, I know how you must miss Sherloock/Reggie! Hopefully, all will work out for him and he will blossom in his new home.if not, he will have a wonderful home with you. It is a win win for him, but tough on you.
ReplyDeleteHugs for giving him the care he needed and deserved.
So glad to see Jake improving. The video was truly heartwarming.
Gus' Mom
I can only imagine how much you will miss him, but it sounds like he has found a loving home. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteIf she takes care of animals like you do, he is in great hands and it gives you the opportunity to help another one. And if it doesn't work, he can always come back. Love your blog!
ReplyDelete*hugs* ♥
ReplyDeleteYour always thinking of whats best for all the goldens that come to you.... And you always follow through.
ReplyDeleteI know its so hard.....
But its good to know if it does not work out,,, you get him back.

Bon voyage Reggie. You'd have known straight away if she wasn't right.
ReplyDeleteI was struck with how much your letting go of rescues is like children growing up and leaving home. You hope like heck they will thrive, but a little part of you wishes they still needed you a little. Hope he does well with his new home.
ReplyDeleteHow very hard it must be for you to let go...I sure hope everything works out. You truly are an angel.
ReplyDeleteI trust that you made a great decision, hard as it was. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteYou have a heart of gold. Reggie is so lucky to have you watching over him, always there if things don't work out. But, maybe they will. I'm glad you gave him this chance with a heart so full of love.
ReplyDeleteReggie is a beautiful boy and I can see why you hated to let him go, not sure I could let go. I hope he finds his forever home and if not comes back to you.
