A Milestone Birthday

Along with the record making heat we had this week, another one which some of you know about (thank-you Facebook) is that I had a milestone birthday, I turned 50 on Friday.  I've thought a lot about that this week.  I know that  I’ve made plenty of mistakes and I know that I can be demanding and short when I am passionate about something. I really do try to have patience for life's little nonsense's and I have to admit that I have problems tolerating people who are unkind and pretentious.  I hope that I am a good person with a good heart and I'm fair minded. I hope I have somewhere, somehow made some small difference to others through my work with the rescue and other things I've been involved in.  I have good people in my life that I cherish dearly.  But what I truly hope that I have accomplished in my 50 years on the planet, more than anything else, is to be a good partner, a good friend, a good sister, and at my core, 'I hope I am the kind of person the dogs think I am.'   Enjoy your Sunday!!

  3. Belated Birthday wishes to you!! Welcome to the half century club which I joined last year, yes - I strive to be the kind of person my dogs think I am too :-) You are obviously very kind hearted and an animal lover which is always the sign of a nice person in my books, Di xxx

  4. Happy Birthday!!! :-)

A few years ago, while we were waiting in the Michigan State University oncology center as our dogs had chemo, I met a woman who was a bit older than I. I'd say she was 60. (She was a Golden rescuer, by the way. :-) )

She said that as she got older, more and more stuff just rolled off her back.

I thought that must be peaceful, and told her so.

For me, though, it seems that I only have so much lifetime patience for each issue. Once it's used up, it's gone, and that's that. Annoying things I have experienced too many times are in the "I've got no patience left for this, so don't even GO there with me!"

I'm sure the roll-off-the-back way is much more comfortable....

But I don't think all of us are built like that.

  5. First, May I wish you the Happiest of Birthday's Kim.

Second, it seems at one point in our lives we always ponder the fact, "What have I accomplished in my life" question...May I say that reading your blog for awhile now, you have 'NO' problem about what the Dogs think. You are a truly amazing Lady fostering and caring for our four-legged creatures...I'm sure if they could express their feelings by talking they'd let you know. (But we know they express their Love with their eyes and loving nature)
I commend you on your 'Good Heart' and I for one would would have NO problem believing your a 'Good Friend', 'Sister' and 'Partner' along with all your other wonderful traits!!!

    Again 'Happy Birthday'...
    Always
    ~Marilyn

  6. Kim,
    Happy Belated Birthday wishes!!!
I think as we age we all tend to be less tolerated of stuff we don't care for. We have actually earned the right.
I think you are a wonderful person and I know the dogs think so also.
I hope you had a real special day with lots of delicious Birthday cake.
Happy Sunday to you and Carl.

  9. Vse najbolšje za rojstni dan (all the best on your birthday in Slovene)! I hit 40 less than 2 weeks ago and I had the same questions as you did. From what I've read on this blog, I can say you most certainly are the kind of person your dogs think you are. To many happy returns!

  11. I have found that you can't please everyone all the time. As long as we can tell ourselves honestly that we are trying our best, then that is good.
From here Kim you have accomplished this ten-fold!
I loved being 50! Enjoy it!

  12. Congrats! Being a member of this club myself, I find that I have more patience for some things and less patience for others. I would like to think it's the important things that I have gotten better at and that I've gotten better at letting the others go.

  27. Happy birthday Kim! 50 is a big one and you certainly seem to be taking it with the right frame of mind :o) Some people get depressed about birthdays, but I have lost a few people around me who I know would have given anything in the world for one more year so I am committed to making every birthday a blessing. Remind me I said this when I turn thirty in a year and a half ;o)

  34. Happy Birthday, Kim. I've only known you for a short time, but you are one of the most caring and special people I know. I will never forget what you did for Sam, the dog whose owner was too old to take care of him in his final days. That was such a sad story made better only through your caring. The photos of the two of them that last day, I will never forget. Then there is Hamlet and all the rest. Who in the world makes up their mind to care for senior dogs like you do. It is wonderful. And that brings with it goodness in the rest of your life as well. Check my blog tomorrow, I will have something for you there, not a gift, just some words.

I am blessed to know you. I, like you, get fed up with "high school nonsense" and try to stay away from the gossip that can still permeate adult women.
