Wet Dogs!

This morning we woke to much needed rain.  Outside with the dogs on our first walk, no birds were singing and even the cicadas were quiet.
There was only the sound of the rain falling as everything seemed to quietly be soaking it all up. Everything feels a bit fresher, and the trees and grass are looking a little greener this afternoon.
Of course the dogs have been wet all day.
As a result, its been a day that I've been reminded more than once that there is nothing more affectionate than a wet dog.
There is also nothing found in a bottle or spray that smells like one either.
But all dog-owners know that there are things that do come in a bottle that will help get rid of it.
Thank-goodness!

***As a remembrance of September 11th, here's a tribute to Bretagne who at 16 years old is the last known living search and rescue dog who worked at Ground Zero. To thank her for her service, Bretagne was treated to "a dog's best day" in  New York City   --Click here for her tribute--

  5. Do they get a shampoo after that wet smell intrudes into the house? Guess they love shaking it all over everything.

  7. We're glad you got some rain! We don't go out in rain. We don't like wet backs....now the river is a different story! SHE has some sort of Spearmint spray that smells like dogs have rolled in a spearmint plant.

  8. My dogs see rain on the radar and they won't go out. Only time there is wet dog syndrome here is bath day and they are few and far between. Looks like Todd sat under the rain gutter, lol!

  9. Glad you got some rain. Here in florida it doesn't seem to stop, even if it is a little. Humidity and mugginess seems to stay with us as well. Wish it would go away even it is for just a few days.
Poor Roscoe has to stay indoors and hides in the closets or wherever her can because of the thunder and lightning. feel so bad for him, but I ignore him because if not it gets worse.
Love the picture with Sheba and Bella, such a picture perfect moment. And Todd, well Todd is a ham. TFS. ana

  13. How wonderful of you to include Bretagne in your post! I hope she enjoyed her special day out :)

As for wet dog, yup, the smell is unique, but wet dogs often seem so wonderfully happy, as long as they have not gotten wet in the bath!

  16. I love the smell of wet dogs! Thank goodness because Labs love to get wet. But they also love to shake when they are closest to me, just like yours are most affectionate when they're wet.

I am heading over to honor the last living dog who worked the 9/11 attacks. I had a SAR dog around that time but she has long passed to the Rainbow Bridge.

  17. We have had a day of much needed rain today (Saturday). Luckily neither of ours really enjoy hanging out and getting soaked in it.

  18. Thank goodness we have been married so long that we have an ample supply of towels now dedicated as dog towels. Those Goldens do absorb the water. Thanks for the heads up on the SAR dog who worked on 9/11/2001.
