What Time is It?

I’m a morning person. I'm usually awake by about 5 a.m.

But I have to confess that today with the time change, I'm not sure what time I woke up. It seemed like every clock said something different.

Although it did feel like the dogs were sleeping in this morning, because at what would have been the "old time" the dogs finally stirred. Or was it the old time? 🤔

Which takes us to mealtime. I'm the one that always feed the dogs, and because of that, they don't always get fed at the exact same time, especially at night. When I'm in the kitchen, and they hear the bowls, they know their mealtime is coming and they start to get excited. I know some nights they are really hungry even with a good snack mid-day.

But today, are the dogs getting fed an hour later, or is it an hour earlier if they're fed by 8?  Looking out the window, I'm not sure what time it is, although the clock is right in front of me.

I know there's always a bit of a fuss when the clocks are changed. But for us, it doesn't really matter too much, we'll figure it out and get through this time change. The dogs know they're going to get fed.... eventually.

I think Todd understands that.  He probably thinks that running our lives by clocks is foolish.

I think it's time to learn from the dogs. Especially on a weekend!

Okay, Your Turn: What do you think about changing the clocks? How does your household cope with the time change?

  1. I hate time change and I don't cope with very well. Today went by in a flash. I want my hour back. Wahhhh. LOL

  2. We find the "spring ahead" time change easier than the "fall back" one but it is somewhat because we are retired and don't have to get up at any special time during the week. Our pup, Walter, is our time keeper but when you spring ahead his breakfast which usually is 8am-ish is what now is 9am. That means we can sleep a little longer in the morning before he wakes us up but in a few weeks we will be back to our usual time schedule.

  3. Mom wishes we didn't have to change at all, but the spring ahead is always easier than the fall back. The fall back makes for a very long day on Sunday because she still gets up at her regular early hour like you. It used to be more of an issue for us when Angel Ciara had to get her anti-seizure meds at the same time every day. We just wish the sun would come out, we are tired of the rain.

  5. I seriously do not see rhyme or reason to do this “spring ahead, fall back” each year. (Maybe I am just being a grump!)

  6. We have 31 clocks to set, we both wish they would just leave it alone.

  7. When I was working and had to be out the door before 7.30 a.m. I hated the change, it was still so dark when I got up, always the first, as 6.30 would still be only 5.30 for me. I hope the doggies will adjust, and I know they will still get fed well, even if your time is not their time.

  8. Our time change in Europe isn't until 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of this month, so we still have a way to go. Time to psych. ourselves up, but it does take a while to acclimatise, then we settle into the routine again.
Todd has the right idea and Inca (the Lab) would agree with your dogs - it doesn't matter what the time is as long as they are fed!

  9. Hello,
I wish they would stop changing the time, leave it on daylight savings time. Dinner time is a good time, especially for the dogs. They are all so cute! Take care, have a great day and a happy new week!

  10. Love the time change - wish it would stay like this through the winter. More daylight after work - easier to walk the dogs! My girls don't mind the change at all!

  12. I wake up early too and most definitely don't like these dark mornings. I would prefer that we stayed on standard time year round, with no daylight savings at all.

  13. I don't really notice the time change much, but it upsets my husband. We feed the pets at the same time no matter what the clock says. They used to have "Gravy Bone" snack time at noon, so now it's at 1:00 so that all is as usual, etc.

  14. That's funny...I feel the same way; What time is it?? Don't know why this time change has made yesterday and today seem to go by faster...and the days were already flying past.

I've just read your Feb. 28 post about Charlie. He was surely very special. I'm sure he will always be in your heart, but then you have a very big heart that is filled with Charlie and so many others that you have made a life for. You are such an amazing woman.

  16. I had heard that "they" are thinking about taking the NE and making it part of the Atlantic Time Zone, which would mean we wouldn't change the time. I personally hope they adopt the idea!!...jp

  17. I need to learn from your dogs and my cat too, Kim... cos I fuss & fume about the time change. I hate that it's dark-as-night at 6am. Pooey! Love ya~ Andrea xoxo

  18. I used to hate the Spring forward time change, back when I was working 7-3 shift. Now that I'm on evening shift, it means I gets to go home an hour earlier. The time change doesn't affect Chester at all. He has a bowl of dry doggie food out so he can eat whenever he wants to.

  19. Ugh, I hate it. I spend so much time trying to make sense of it, and I can't! Then I'm tired all week because I just don't like our routines being messed with. Luke adjusts much more quickly than I do!

  20. I hate changing the clocks. My internal clock has not changed in terms of when I go to sleep but I still get up very early. Crazy. But I do love it being light until late evening. That part makes me smile. My choice would be to keep DST all year long!

  21. I'm a morning person, too. Changing the clocks always makes me goofy for a few days. Millie thinks I've completely lost track of when to serve her meals. I think Todd is very wise.

  22. for about the first week I spend a few minutes each day trying to work out what time it would have been that day last week! I'm not sure why? I soon enjoy the lighter evenings though. xx

  23. Hi friends! Ojo here! These clock things the people have are silly. I did like it that my Breakfast and Dinner seemed to come extra-early though! Maybe we could just keep going earlier and earlier with meal times? I like that idea!!
