Cooper Arrives (unexpectedly) at Golden Pines

Well, you all were right. It didn't take long for us to get a new addition. Lab Rescue asked this afternoon if I'd take an 8 year old boy named Cooper that needed to be moved from his foster home TODAY. Of course I say yes, and he was dropped off at my office as I was leaving work.

~On our way home from work!~

I don't know much about Cooper. Other than he was given up by his elderly owners who could no longer care for him, and he came into the rescue about 2 weeks ago. However, Cooper apparently isn't sleeping at night, and this was becoming a problem and causing some frustration and so the Foster Home ask that he be moved.

We've not done any one on one intros. But Cooper doesn't seemed bothered by the dogs passing by him in an ex-pen and vice-versa. I was told by his foster home (who could not have been any nicer!) that he is easy going....except at night when he pants and paces and whines and won't settle down. I wonder if he has sundowners syndrome?

Well, lets welcome Cooper and see how it goes.

  1. Awww, welcome to Cooper. He looks a lot like our human sister's lab Ruby from a few years back. We take his arrival as a sign that the Lab Rescue is just fine with you (we never had a doubt). We hope you all get some sleep tonight:)

  2. Cooper certainly has that frosted face of the older doggie. I wonder if he's really only eight! I have to also wonder if he's have some arthritis pain, as our (late) lab did until we got the right beds and the right meds. Good luck with Cooper; how kind of you to take him in so quickly.

  7. Cooper looks like an old soul with a lot of personality, he must be feeling a bit sad and displaced but he's landed on his feet with you!

  9. Change is hard on all creatures and Cooper’s night time distress might come from that.

  13. My german shepherd would do this when he had dementia. I had heard it is like dementia in older people when the sun goes down.

  14. Well, it didn't take long for the gap to be filled!
Cooper has certainly landed on his feet with you, and I do hope he will settle down - he certainly looks happy enough on his bed in the sunshine. The poor boy must be feeling so unsettled, losing the home he knew, and moving again after just a short stay in the foster home. Perhaps he will sleep well now that he has company around him.
What would Lab Rescue do without you Kim? They know where to turn when there's a desperate dog needing a welcoming home.

  15. I wonder if he is in pain...usually restless and panting is a sign...I don't know what sundowners is but I bet he has something. Poor boy...that is one of the reasons we have not gotten a dog we are getting on in years and who would take a dog for us if we could not take care of it anymore:( We should really foster but we do not have a fenced yard:(

  16. Cooper has rather a distinguished, silvery, air. Let's hope his problems settle down now he's got some stability in his environment.

  17. Of course poor Cooper wouldn't sleep at night! After living with elderly owners for 8 years and having to sleep in a different place, which is full of "scary" sights & sounds, I don't think any of us would sleep very well at first either! I wish I lived close by, Kim. I'd adopt Cooper as I don't sleep very well at night either. :-) ~Andrea xoxo

  18. He looks like a very nice fellow. I don't know if doggies can have sun-downer's syndrome, but you never know. Maybe his previous owners put him outside at night. Hopefully he'll settle down.

  19. Life's rough when you lose your long time home. Maybe poor Cooper just needs the love and attention he's bound to get at your welcoming place. I'm praying for him.

  25. sweet boy. Hoping his nighttime restlessness is only an adjustment from missing his first parents.
